Welcome to our page dedicated to celebrating the fantastic sporting achievements of the children at St Wilfrid’s. Keep an eye out for updates on clubs and notifications of any upcoming events. As part of the Government’s funding initiative for school sports we are working on making our provision even more exciting in both curriculum time and after school. Look out shortly for photographs of the latest events and activities.
During the academic year 17/18 Year 3 children swim weekly for the whole year and Years 4,5 and 6 swim for 1 Term each.
Of our 34 children in Year 6:
87% are able to swim confidently, competently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres,
87% can use a range of strokes effectively,
87% can perform safe self-rescue in different water based situations.
After School Clubs and Curriculum News
Young Leaders Training
Children from Y5 have volunteered to undertake the young leaders training, following this they will be going into the KS1 playground during lunchtimes to run exciting activities for them.
Y5 and 6 will be having football training with Morecambe football club on a Monday night.
Years 1 and 2 on a Thursday night 3:15-4:15
3 and 4 on a Wednesday 3:15-4:15
Y4, 5 and 6 have the opportunity to attend an after school club on Thursday 3:15-4:15 run by KLRFC
Year 3 are having coaching sessions with KLRFC on a Friday morning.
We are once again continuing our affiliation with Chance to Shine, with Y5 and Y6 having coaching sessions during curriculum time on a Monday afternoon.
Inclusion games (wheelchair basketball) 3 and 4 on a Monday 3:15-4:15
This year we aim for all children to run every day around our new track. We also want them to enjoy and utilise our new outdoor equipment. We would like all children to have trainers in school if possible.
Athletics club will be running for children from Y5 and Y6 on Monday lunchtimes.
Our children in the Indoor Athletics League did a fantastic job in their first fixture and we are looking forward to the next one on 18/01/19
Young Adventurers club
A key stage 1 club run by Mrs Long and Y6 volunteers on a Wednesday lunchtime.
As an incentive for children to participate in extra curricular sports clubs, there will be an exciting raffle held at the end of the Autumn Term. Winners will receive great sports related prizes. The more clubs you attend this term the more chance you have of winning. Let’s get active together!
