Chestnut Class (Year 2)
Hello and welcome to Chestnut Class
Chestnut is a class of Year Two children who are taught by Mrs Rowe and Mrs Towers and supported by Mrs Sherrington. It has been lovely to welcome such a super group of children into the class and we are looking forward to an exciting year.
Please can all the children bring in their reading books daily (even if they’ve not read or finished a book) as they regularly read in school. Children who have completed a book can change their reading books every day.
Spellings will be sent out via class Dojo and will after a lot of learning in class as well as at home, be tested on the following Friday.
We also learn our tables, we will be using TimesTables Rockstars this year.
PE is on a Monday and Thursday, children will bring their kits into school and get changed before the PE sessions.

Spring 2 – Victorians
Summer 1 – Plants, Food and Farming
Summer 2 – Pirates, Monsters and Castles.
In Science this year we will be looking at materials, the different seasons and observing changes in our local area, animals and world habitats, famous scientists and finally plants, farming and local habitats.
For our RE curriculum we follow Questful RE, we will be focusing on the Bible, the Christmas story and why it is good news, why did Jesus welcome everyone?, understanding the Easter story, Ascension and Pentecost and understanding why the church is a special place for Christians.
In History we will be looking at famous explorers, life before living memory and life as a Victorian child, Queen Victoria and famous inventors.
In Geography we will be looking at map skills, directions, geographical features (human and manmade), place knowledge of the UK, The Equator, North and South Poles. We will then move on to map skills looking at globes and atlases, oceans and continents, describing and comparing locations in the UK, China and Australia. Finally, we will compare localities looking at Ghanaian and local farming.
In Art and DT we will look at Scottish artists and comparing Art from living artists, we will look at cultural art from China, Australia and Chas Jacobs. We will then move on to observational drawings and printing, William Morris, Lowry and Van Gough and finally 3D art.
In PE we explore each of the fundamental movement skills and how they can be applied in games, gymnastics and dance.
For Personal Social and Health Education, this year, we are having half termly PSHE days.
In Computing, there is a thread throughout the learning of age-appropriate online safety. We will look at spreadsheets, questioning, presenting ideas and making music.
